The Folies Bergère become the Kit Kat Club
Sam Mendes’ revival version of CABARET was a major Broadway success: 2377 performances in six years (1998-2004) and four Tony Awards® in 1998. The musical’s strength lies in the set of the Kit Kat Klub, a fictitious pre-war Berlin night club where all the intrigues of CABARET take place. The Parisian CABARET audience will discover the dark spot of freedom and transgression imagined by Sam Mendes: "When you enter the Kit Kat Klub, you walk into a world of its own, governed by different rules". Thus the cabaret chairs and tables, lit by red lamps, will replace some of the Folies Bergère orchestra seats. The Kit Kat Klub nightlife is a fascinating world in which the audience will truly play its role for an evening.
CABARET’s action takes place in Germany, in the Thirties, at a time when the Nazis are actively building the Third Reich. In Berlin’s hot night spot, the Kit Kat Klub, singer Sally Bowles and the club’s master of ceremonies throw an extravagant show to try to make the audience forget their daily problems and the growing threats of the outside world.
